Holding Fire is a collaborative body of work from ceramicist Sarah Phenix and candle-maker Gabrielle C (Moss Candles).

The exhibition features wax and clay sculptures that take on sigil-like forms, making way for transformation, transmutation, and an honoring of the (seemingly) mundane. The invocation of the four elements (earth, fire, water, and air) serves as a path to coalescence, while the abstraction of gates (particularly the wrought-iron gates found commonly throughout Los Angeles) gestures toward notions of boundaries, parameters, and what closeness really means. More than anything, though, these works share a sense of possibility in the ordinary, in the ground, in what is here (right now).
